Catalunya – SEA

The Catalunya-SEA node, led by researchers David Moriña Soler (Universitat de Barcelona) and Anabel Blasco Moreno (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), is formed by 21 members. Its main lines of research focus on discrete data analysis and clinical trials.

Main lines of investigation

From a methodological research point of view, we can highlight the following lines of research (see poster):
1 – Development of new models for the analysis of misreported data.
2 – Development of new models for longitudinal data where the response variable represents a proportion (matching score).
3 – Construction of new estimators for capture-recapture problems.
4 – Development of new statistical models for count data with applications in biodosimetry.
5 – Implementation of bioinformatics techniques in the context of clinical trials and epidemiology.
6 – Methodological proposals for risk analysis of extreme events.
7 – Development of statistical software.
The statistical methods developed are also transferable to other areas, such as biomedicine, public health and environmental health.
From the point of view of multidisciplinary collaborations,
– Survival analysis in clinical trials and health sciences.
– Mixed models in animal health and agronomic sciences.
– Comparison of ROC curves and summary indices by non-parametric methods under different experimental designs.

Biostatistics consulting activities

The Servei d’Estadística offers technical advice and consultancy in all areas of statistics with the aim of providing specific and feasible solutions to the needs of the researcher in all phases of your project so that the use of statistical techniques is appropriate, and the conclusions of the analysis are appropriate.

This advice is open both to research projects supervised by the UAB itself and to research teams linked to other universities, as well as to professionals, companies or other external institutions.

The different types of advice offered by the UAB Statistical Service are:

Occasional advice.

Occasional advice consists of resolving methodological, technical, software use or interpretation doubts at any stage of the research.

Integral Statistical Support.

The integral statistical support aims to cover the different statistical needs of researchers throughout the research project.

Scientific collaborations

The objective of the scientific collaboration in the statistical analysis is to incorporate the participation of an advisor from the Servei d’Estadística within the research group that carries out the project and to contribute scientifically with methodological, exploratory and technical contributions. Fundamentally, the Servei d’Estadística assumes responsibility for the methodological proposal, and the obtaining and presentation of results.

Specialised training

The Servei d’Estadística adapts consultations or provides support in order to transmit knowledge and offer specialised training in certain statistical analysis methodologies, specific techniques or statistical software.

Statistical Audits

As an independent entity and backed by its high technical experience, the Statistical Service offers statistical audits, the aim of which is to regulate, validate and review statistical analyses of certain projects.

Agreements

With the aim of consolidating the collaboration between the Statistical Service and different entities and at the same time establishing agile communication in large-scale projects.

Consultancy Activities

Annually, the UAB Applied Statistics Service carries out more than 50 data analysis projects and provides around 60 technical and methodological consultancy services. At the same time it teaches about 20 courses on Statistics.
