Madrid-UCM node, is led by the researcher Mª del Carmen Pardo (Universidad Complutense University of Madrid), and formed by 20 members. The main research lines revolve around the development of computational of statistical methods that enables us to implement flexible individually tailored solutions for complex problems in the context of clinical research and biomedical research.

MAIN LINES OF INVESTIGATION

Biomarkers, surrogate endpoints, and clinical outcome assessments provide an essential set of tools needed to translate scientific concepts into diagnostic and therapeutic approaches and technologies. Recent advances in the laboratory sciences have led to the discovery of a large number of candidate biomarkers, which hold great potential for disease diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, it is of huge interest to develop statistical methods for using effectively these candidate biomarkers to enhance clinical practice. It is our goal to develop new tools to select, combine, and evaluate biomarkers for disease classification and treatment selection. Classification markers predict an individual’s disease outcome and are useful for the detection of diseases at an early stage when a treatment is most effective. The node´s main lines of research will be mainly focussed on:

  • Definition of new diagnostic tools and statistical inference.
  • Assessment of diagnostic markers.
  • Joint models for Longitudinal and Survival Data.
  • Statistical Analysis with Missing Data.
  • Selecting and combining biomarkers in high-dimensional data.
  • Adaptive designs.
  • Causal inference techniques.
  • Machine learning and deep learning techniques.
  • Bayesian networks.
  • Software development.

Our last aim is the application of the proposed methodology to real data from health, medical and biological sciences.
