14th International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications (ICCSA 2014)
The 14th International Conference on Computational Science and Applications (ICCSA 2014) will be held on June 30 - July 3, 2014 at the University of Minho, Guimaraes, Portugal. ICCSA 2014 will be the next event in a series of highly successful International Conferences on Computational Science and Its Applications (ICCSA), previously held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (2013), Salvador de Bahia, Brazil (2012), Santander, Spain (2011), Fukuoka, Japan (2010), Suwon, Korea (2009), Perugia, Italy (2008), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2007), Glasgow, UK (2006), Singapore (2005), Assisi, Italy (2004), Montreal, Canada (2003), and (as ICCS) Amsterdam, The Netherlands  (2002) and San Francisco, USA (2001). Computational Science is a main pillar of most of the present research, industrial and commercial activities and plays a unique role in exploiting Information and Communication Technologies as innovative technologies. The ICCSA Conference offers a real opportunity to discuss new issues, tackle complex problems and find advanced enabling solutions able to shape new trends in Computational Science. Submitted papers will be subject to stringent peer review by at least three experts and carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of exposition. GeoMap Workshop 2014
The abstract deadline of GeoMap, the first international Workshop on Practical Aspectsof Geochemical Exploration and Mapping with Logratio Techniques, held at the Facultyof Science, Palacky University Olomouc, Czech Republic, from June 17-20, 2014, was extendedto January 26, 2014!GeoMap offers a practical forum of discussion for people concerned with the statisticaltreatment, modelling and interpolation of compositional data in geochemical applications,particularly focused on geochemical exploration and mapping. The workshop will mainly consistof a series of invited lectures on the problems of geochemical mapping, followed by discussionson each of the compositional topics raised. The goal of the workshop is to build teams to attackeach of these specific topics and to provide enough time space for panel discussions.GeoMap will touch a wide variety of problems and oppportunities that the log-ratio approachto compositional data analysis brings to regional geochemistry contexts. Particularly, the mainspecific feature of the workshop will be discussions for concrete problem solving and teambuilding. Complementarily, also contributions of participants from the fields of interest ofthe workshop are warmly welcome, specially if they portray unsolved problems. Estadística aplicada con R
La investigación actual tiene una componente cuantitativa importante y los investigadores necesitan a menudo poder procesar y analizar los datos que recogen o generan en sus estudios. Si bien algunas de estos análisis pueden ser complejas y requerir de personal especializado hay otros que, con los conocimientos y los recursos adecuados, son relativamente sencillas de realizar.El objetivo principal de este curso es proporcionar una perspectiva general de los principales métodos estadísticos que pueden resultar de utilidad en el día a día de la investigación. Su enfoque es aplicado y lo que se persigue es dotar a los investigadores y profesionales de conceptos y herramientas para saber cuándo hay que aplicar cada técnica, y cómo hacerlo utilizando la herramienta estadística apropiada.La aplicación de los conceptos y técnicas presentados a lo largo de los cursos se llevará a cabo utilizando el software estadístico libre R ( http://r-project.org ) y la interfaz gráfica de usuario R commander que permite su uso mediante un sistema de ventanas y menús.
